Detoxing For Employment

Every herbalist has been faced with the dilemma of wanting to get a job, but fearing the necessity to have to take a drug test for said job. Seriously, every single one of us have either been met with the decision to either attempt to take the drug test knowing there’s a strong possibility that you will fail, purchase a detox drink, or just say forget it and never go take the test. And I’m pretty sure at some point, everyone has pondered upon the thought if detox drinks actually work. Well, ponder no more! Let’s check the facts.
Urine drug tests are the most commonly used by employers and are recommended by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a branch of the U.S. department of Health and Human Services that sets standards for drug testing of government employees. Urine tests do not directly measure the amount of THC present, but rather the levels of the metabolite THC-COOH, a non-intoxicating THC metabolite. (yes, you read that right. non-intoxicating.)
A detox is the process of abstaining from consuming a substance in order to cleanse the body of any trace. That said, in order to detox from cannabis, you would be preventing yourself from ingesting it in any sort of form. According to Leafly, “If you’re wondering how to pass a drug test for cannabis without taking a cleansing break, know that detoxification is a lengthy process. No vitamin, juice, tea, or chemical will magically flush the body of cannabis overnight or in a short period of time.” Detox drinks claim to have the formula to help flush cannabis out of your system using ingredients such as lemon, watermelon and mint. However, it has been said before that many of these drinks show up in the results of your drug test, which raises a red flag when the lab results should only show certain ingredients in your urine.
do detox drinks really work?
This one is hard to tell. As we said before, there have been cases where the detox shows up on the test although there have been cases where a detox drink actually did the trick. The decision to take a detox drink before an employment drug test i still and will always be up to your discretion. However, we do advise that you take extreme precaution when reading the ingredients to be sure that you are making the best decision. Although there are no conclusive results on if detox drinks actually work and/or which ones are the best ones, there are many options out there to choose from.
Ever heard of it? Bentonite clay has been used for more than 6,000 years as a detoxifying, antimicrobial medicine and it’s actually composed of ash made from volcanoes. Bentonite clay is known for absorbing toxins, chemicals, impurities, and heavy metals. Herbalists have been known to use this form of detox in a bath, on the skin, or even in a glass of drinking water.
I mean, if you’re even considering this to be an option, more power to you! But drinking vinegar to flush your system of any signs of cannabis is a myth, and here’s why. To put it short and sweet, when you drink vinegar, it mixes with gastric enzymes and stomach acid to change your urine’s pH level. It doesn’t affect any cannabis metabolites and is more likely to give you an upset stomach and a bad dose of diarrhea, not clean urine.
An adulterant is a substance added to urine to destroy or mask THC metabolites in order to provide a negative drug test result. This option, like detox drinks, has a had results of successes and failures as well. Papain is an enzyme in papaya that, when added to a urine sample, reduces the concentration of weed metabolites by 50% and is undetectable by some drug tests.
how to successfully pass a drug test
We know none of you are going to like this but, the best way to pass a drug test would be to abstain from cannabis use all together. Doing things while trying not to use marijuana like exercising would help keep your mental and physical busy. One thing that would be beneficial to cleaning your system of cannabis would be to drink a lot of water. Dehydration will increase the concentration of your urine and could increase your chances for a positive result. If your urine has too much water, it will automatically invalidate the results and you will have to repeat the test. Drinks with higher levels of antioxidants like dandelion tea or milk thistle are good choices to help your body cope with detoxing as well.
