Morgan Freeman Talks About Marijuana
The well known voiceover and Oscar-winning actor, Morgan Freeman, talked to The Daily Beast about his longtime marijuana use. After a nearly fatal car crash back in 1997, Freeman has found that cannabis has been an excellent medicine for him, as well as a recreational drug. He was rescued by the Jaws of Life after his Nissan Maxima skidded off the road and flipped over multiple times. After undergoing an extensive surgery on his left arm, shoulder and elbow, Freeman still has no regained full use of his left hand.
Marlow Stern sat down with Morgan Freeman and asked him about his stance on legalization. “They used to say, ‘You smoke that stuff, boy, you get hooked!” Freeman chuckled. He went on to admit, My first wife got me into it many years ago. How do I take it? However it comes! I’ll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it! This movement is really a long time coming, and it’s getting legs—longer legs. Now, the thrust is understanding that alcohol has no real medicinal use. Maybe if you have one drink it’ll quiet you down, but two or three and you’re fucked.”
Freeman has been an outspoken advocate for marijuana use in the media. He is one who recognizes the many benefits that cannabis has. “Marijuana has many useful uses. I have fibromyalgia pain in this arm (left), and the only thing that offers any relief is marijuana," he confessed. "They’re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they’ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says, ‘Legalize it across the board!’”
He also knows that marijuana has very little, if any, negative affects. He went on to explain, “Look at Woodstock 1969. They said, ‘We’re not going to bother them or say anything about smoking marijuana,’ and not one problem or fight. Then look at what happened in ’99,” referring to the 30th-anniversary event that was not marijuana-friendly, which happened to result in riots and arrests.
