Australian Father Arrested
An Australia Brisbane father has been criminally charged for using cannabis oil to treat his dying daughter. Adam Koessler allegedly served his two-year old daughter, Rumer, medical cannabis oil because she suffers from stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer. Medical marijuana campaigners are standing behind Koessler, claiming that parents should have the right to treat their own children if they believe in the effectiveness of the medicine.
Koessler says that the oil he was giving Rumer did not contain any compounds that cause recreational users to get high. He said the oil had a "miraculous" effect on her, stating, "Her cancer-ridden little body was alive again – Rumer had almost instant quality of life."
Koessler has since been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 20th. The timing of his arrest comes as the NSW government rushes towards medical marijuana reform. Medical marijuana crusader Lucy Haslam said his arrest could potentially set back the national debate.
