Cannabis Friendly Gym In San Francisco

This fall, herbalists can get high while on site at the gym at Power Plant Fitness.  The world's first cannabis friendly gym will open in San Francisco, California.  Jim McAlpine, founder of the cannabis event series 420 Games and cofounder of Power Plant Fitness, is focused on athletics and safe cannabis use.

McAlpine explains that the gym will serve as a tool for focus and recovery.  "It won't be a place to get high and just screw around," he said.  New members will take a "cannabis performance assessment" under the supervision of staff to determine the "most optimal ways to consume."  "We will be helping our members figure out how is best for them to ingest their cannabis," McAlpine told Tech Insider in an email.

The gym will offer a variety of edibles on site and vaping will also be allowed on the property as an initial acceptance  add an outdoor smoking deck for those who actually want to smoke in the future.  The city of San Francisco currently does not allow smoking in public venues. McAlpine says the company also plans to create a line of edibles specifically for pre-workout focus and post-workout recovery.  If the gym decides to distribute edibles, they may have to register as a California dispensary.

Many are still concerned with the health risks that may be involved with working out under the influence of cannabis.  McAlpine hopes the cannabis performance assessment will help foster good habits on the gym floor.
