Illinois MMJ Sales Reach $1.5 Million

Illinois medical cannabis sales totaled about $1.5 million - and this is only during its first two months of legal sales!  The state is estimated to have collected around $107,000 in taxes, while wholesalers contributing seven percent.

The state has sold medical cannabis to registered patients at an average of $14-15 per gram.  As of November 9, 2015, the state had approximately 3,300 patients according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.  Dispensaries served nearly all of those patients in just November and December alone.

Despite the revenue in the beginning stages of Illinois MMJ program, the state shows no signs of moving towards legalizing recreational cannabis.  With the possibility of increasing state tax revenue similar to Colorado and Washington, Illinois must make a major political shift in the views on recreational cannabis.
