Illinois Allows MMJ For Kids

Children under the age of 18 will be allowed access to edible forms of cannabis, so long as they have a prescription from a primary care physician, a secondary doctors recommendation and their parent or guardians permission in Illinois.  The state is requiring patients under the age of 18 to present photographs instead of fingerprints before they are given permission to use medical marijuana.  Also, underage patients will also pay a $100 annual fee to participate in the state’s medical marijuana program.

Doctors are still apprehensive about treating adult patients, let alone children, with cannabis.  Requiring children to provide not one, but two doctor recommendations was, “an unneeded burden standing between these patients and the medicine they need,” according to Dan Lin, executive director of Illinois NORML.
