Illinois' MMJ Program Coming Soon!
Medical marijuana may be on the market within the next two weeks in the state of Illinois. According to the Tribune, the first crop has been grown, harvested, processed and packaged, awaiting to be tested for purity and potency.
Dispensaries are also in need a of a database system to verify patient registration. The first of the 3,200 ID cards will be sent to qualified patients on Friday. "We're fully ready," said Ben Kovler, an investment fund manager and co-owner of Green Thumb Industries.
Four state-certified laboratories have begun testing. The medical marijuana program will start off small at first. Patients will only be allowed to ingest marijuana in their homes, not in public, in the car or even in the dispensary. Illinois' program will be much stricter than Colorado's according to the manager of the PharmaCannis dispensary in Schaumburg, Dan Scheidt.
