Massachusetts Approves Question 4
Recreational and commercial cannabis is now legal in the state of Massachusetts. Marijuana will be regulated by the Cannabis Control Commission.
Supporters of the measure feel that taxing cannabis will start to eliminate the black market and create a safe, legal product. There are many current black market dealers who feel that legalizing recreational cannabis will drastically affect their sales and were opposed to the measure. Other opposers argued that creating a highly potent product for recreational use will put children and pets at risk.
The ballot measure was criticized by many. Leaders on Beacon Hill claimed that the taxes were too low, ill-prepping the state for what comes of legalization. The lngauge of the measure was also stated to be "flawed."
Despite the naysayers, Question 4 passed the ballot with 53%.
