NY Marijuana Arrests Down
Although marijuana arrests are still higher than the rate of tickets being distributed in the state of New York, the amount of arrests due to possession of small amounts has decreased significantly in the past year.
Last year, the New York Post reported than New York police officers arrested 29,906 people for marijuana-related "crimes" in 2014. However, this year the New York Division of Criminal Justice stated there has been a 40 percent decrease, totaling in 18,120 arrests during the same time period.
Since decriminalization in New York State, New Yorkers seem to have less fear when it comes to cannabis. With the likelihood of receiving a ticket rather than facing jail time or ruining their record, people feel safer using and carrying small amounts of cannabis.
