NYC Cannabis Parade
On May 3rd, 2014, the streets of NYC were packed with marijuana smokers and advocates for legalization in the nations capital of marijuana arrests. New York has not yet legalized medicinal marijuana BUT the state should be expecting to see at least the legalization of limited use by the end of the year.
The parade was a huge success, kicking off with performances from Immortal Technique and Staten Island native Method Man. Surprisingly, the event resulted in zero arrests and was peaceful all throughout. The events activists included the Empire State NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), Long Island NORML, LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition), Drug Policy Alliance, Hemp News and NY Cannabis Alliance.
The Cannabis Parade is a worldwide organization that began in 1999 and takes place in over 300 cities. If you happened to miss it this year, check out the NYC Cannabis Parade next year! And if you're from New York and want to participate in the #LegalizeNY movement, head over to Weed Maps to sign their petition. We did!
