Prime Minister Of Canada Forces Legalization
In an official Mandate Letter, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have an official order to start the process to legalize cannabis in Canada. Though the newly appointed Prime Minister has not provided a timeline or any information on how it will happen, he demands that Liberal Minister of Justice and Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould take the steps to legalize marijuana.
Min his letter, Trudeau states:
In particular, I will expect you to work with your colleagues and through established legislative, regulatory, and Cabinet processes to deliver on your top priorities: …
• Working with the Ministers of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Health, create a federal-provincial-territorial process that will lead to the legalization and regulation of marijuana.
He tells CBC reporters, “We don’t yet know exactly what rate we’re going to be taxing it, how we’re going to control it, or whether it will happen in the first months, within the first year, or whether it’s going to take a year or two to kick in,”
Trudeau has been a known supporter for legalizing cannabis. Back in September, he told the press, “We’re going to work with the provinces to make sure that the control and regulation of marijuana is done in a way that is responsible and suitable. … The sort of control and regulation in many cases will be in conversation with provinces in how they administer and how they control distribution.” During his campaign, he made cannabis a major point in his platform.
