Tilray Becomes First Company To Export Extracts To Europe
A medical marijuana company out of Canada has become the country's first company ever to be allowed to export marijuana globally. The company has shipped medical cannabis products to Croatia to be prescribed to patients allowed medical marijuana access.
The products from Tilray, a global leader in medical cannabis research and production, are the first marijuana products containing THC that have been legal exported to the European Union from North America. It is known that these products are intended for commercial medical use, making this a milestone for Tilray as well as the medical cannabis industry. The company, "aims to build the world's most trusted and admired medical cannabis brand by offering patients, physicians, researchers and pharmacies pure, precise and predictable products."
Croatian Institute of Immunology will be overseeing the distribution of products and they will be processed at the company's federally licensed production facility in Canada. The announcement of the partnership was announced last week at Croatia's annual Media and Health Symposium in Grožnjan. "It took eight months for the Committee for Medical Cannabis to deliver necessary documents needed to change Croatian legislation to get cannabis to Croatian patients," said Professor Ognjen Brborović PhD MD, Chairman of Croatia's Committee for Medical Cannabis. "It took another eight months of diligent work with Tilray to secure all certificates and licenses needed to import and distribute cannabinoid preparations into the European Union from Canada and for actual production of the first bath of cannabis extract oil."
Croatia is now being supplied with orally administered medical cannabis products such as 2.5 or 5mg capsules of either THC or CBD. It is the first EU country that will be able to provide MMJ patients with the best cannabis extract oil in pharmacies today. "I hope that patients in other EU countries will soon have the same opportunity," Dr. Brborović stated.
