Canna-Charity With Joints For The Homeless
he cannabis community are not strangers to the motto, "sharing is caring." In order to uff, puff, pass you have to give the joint to the herbalist on your left. But, have you ever thought of giving marijuana to someone a little less fortunate? Joints For The Homeless is the ultimate herbalists perfect way to involve themselves in a charity effort. The organization started off small with just two people passing out joints for free to the homeless. Eventually, two turned to many around the world, giving and encouraging to give green.
Joints For The Homeless is a non profit organization that started in South Florida in 2015 and has since spread around the world. The originator, @Boppin954, credits his idea to start the group of generous ganja givers after seeing a video of @MetalDamien gifting a joint to a homeless person. "After that video, I started the page, the hashtag... From there it went worldwide: U.S., Mexico, Spain, UK… pretty much every part of the world," he told us. He included @MetalDamien in his venture, of course, by having him as the JFTH spokesman. The purpose of the ever growing organization is to inspire others to give to the homeless, whether it's the medicine (weed) they need, food, clothes or more. Currently, @Boppin954 is looking to expand Joints For The Homeless by creating a street team of individuals that give to the homeless all over the world.
Members of the street team would provide their own goods or meds, as do @Boppin954 and @MetalDamien. When it comes to who will be the lucky receiver of a joint, @Boppin954 says they, "Try them all! If they dont want the joint, we give them food or clothes. It’s a hit or miss but as long as we’re giving, that’s all that matters." They feel that giving joints to the homeless if beneficial because they are allowing people access to the medicine they may need, but cannot get.
We're sure you're wondering if every person approached by Joints For The Homeless gladly accepted a joint. In fact, a few people have turned down joints from JFTH. "Happens 10-20% of the time," @Boppin954 said. "Most of them love it. (most, not all.)" And JFTH is not selective about who they give to. Some of the homeless were given joints multiple times and many of the receivers were hunted down for hours before receiving their joint. "We try to encourage relationships even friendships if we can."
In areas where JFTH has been known to be giving out joints, some of the homeless recognize those who have handed out joints in the past. "They’re like, 'you’re the guy i’ve been looking for. You gave me one last week.'" With their faces being known within the homeless community, one might think that JFTH members may encounter some trouble with the law. However, this has yet to have happened most likely because in states where marijuana is legal, sharing cannabis is not illegal. JFTH is not a dispensary or illegal drug dealer exchanging money for weed. They are simply bringing smiles to the faces of those who need it.
JFTH is not oblivious to the needs and after affects of smoking cannabis either. They know that homeless people will have trouble lighting the joint or satisfying their munchies "We give lighters, matches, flowers, food, socks, hygiene products, and more," @Boppin954 said.
As with any good cause, there will always be individuals who are against the movement or even discourage the good deeds of others. "Of course there are people who say we do it for likes, but we dont worry about them. More than 90% encourage what we’re doing."
