Every herbalist has at least two things in common: they love to get high and they love to eat.  What's better than doing both simultaneously while satisfying your sweet tooth!?  Sarai Knowledge is the genius who co-created Kush Kakery, the home of the original Kush Cake Pops.  The multi-talented ganjapreneur has battled with epilepsy, started her own business and has been recognized as Miss HighTimes January 2015.  Sarai Knowledge is an admirable herbalist and songwriter with her Masters degree in business, and an all around positive woman.

Everyday is a blessing, and you can tell in her voice that Sarai truly believes that.  She was born in the Philippines, then moved to America as a toddler and spent her childhood in New Orleans and her teen years outside of Boston.  Since a young age, Sarai recalls always gravitating towards music and she befriended some people who loved writing songs and making music like her.  While in the studio and traveling back and forth to New York City, Sarai was introduced to Newports and blunts.  She remembers smoking for the first time at 12 years old, and loving it.  She began to notice that after smoking, she became a more visionary artist.  Marijuana evolved Sarai's creative ability to play the guitar and piano, which she has been playing since she was a child.

Not only did cannabis help Sarai musically, but medically as well.  Sarai has suffered from epilepsy since a young age as well as other medical conditions that affect her bones and joints.  She has had countless surgeries and been prescribed many medicines, only to find that marijuana has been the best medicine for her.  "I've been prescribed everything…  and it just, clogs your mind and, you're not who you are.  You can't connect with yourself because you're all pilled up," she told us.  The medication she was took was endless; pills for her condition and more pills for the side effects each pill she took.  She became adamant on finding a way to use marijuana medically.

Eventually, she ended up moving to California to pursue her music dreams.  It wasn't until her neurologist on the west coast told her about his experience with using medical marijuana to treat his epilepsy.  Sarai's doctor did an extensive amount of research, he even travelled to India to discover ways that cannabis can be a healing drug.  "He told me about edibles, you know, just eat one before you go to bed and you won't have any seizures in your sleep," she said.  When she started eating edibles, she had a great night sleep with no seizures.  The medical power of cannabis was unquestionable to Sarai from then on.

Unfortunate for her, the edible market was very scarce and the products that were available weren't up to par.  "There weren't a lot of good tasting edibles.  I just didn't like the way a lot of them tasted."  Sarai started experimenting with baking with friends, using cannabis as an ingredient.  She expanded her knowledge by learning how to grow and involving herself in a variety or projects to keep learning everything possible about cannabis.

Sarai decided to try the new baking trend, cake pops, with an extra ingredient.  She worked with bakers and growers to create different flavors, which has now led to her creating over 30 flavors of Kush Cake Pops.  "I always like to ask 'what's your favorite kind of cake?' because we have it for you," she said, explaining that Kush Kakery has different strengths for different tolerances and highs.  It's rather common for Sarai to receive feedback through social media about their experiences with Kush Cake Pops but, she really enjoys going to cannabis events and connecting with patients.  Sarai hears countless amounts of miracle stories of how Kush Cake Pops has benefited their lives.

Sarai believes that Kush Kakery has impacted her life more than anyone, including her bakers.  "It touches me in a different angle, y'know, because medically, I just know the power of this product and how it can help other people."  Sarai used to wake up every 2-3 hours almost every other night for most of her life, either experiencing a seizure or just having experienced one.  Since eating half a cake pop before bed, she has not had any seizures in her sleep at all.  She stays medicated throughout the day, which she believes has made all of the difference because she doesn't wear leg braces like she used to and she hasn't taken her seizure medication for over three years.

Sarai believes that the only bad experience you can have with edibles is that you will want to throw it up or sleep it off.  Her only bad experience was when an edible wasn't cooked right, which is something you will not have to worry about with her trusted team of bakers and growers producing Kush Cake Pops.  Her company has been focusing on branding the Cake Pops however, Sarai intends on expanding the company with more products in the future.

Sarai's progression in the cannabis industry has gotten her recognized in many magazines for being an active member in the community.  Most recently, she was given the title of Miss HighTimes January 2015, which she is very humbled by.  Her new title has allowed her to continue to bring awareness to the fact that she's not just a girl who gets high, but she also treats her epilepsy with cannabis.

With the a business to run and a number of cannabis events to attend while balancing pursing a music career, Sarai finds that marijuana keeps her in control of her schedule.  She told us, "For me, when I start smoking I just want to be more active, more involved and I want to be more creative," which is the opposite of the stereotype about herbalists being lazy.  She stays involved in the community by continuing to educate herself, attending seminars and forums.  Growing marijuana is a passion of hers as well.  When we asked if she would create her own strain, she said, "I would love that.  Especially a little bit more of a CBD strain like they have Charlotte's Web in Denver."
