(Sept 2015) The Finer Side with RI_Finest
The East Coast finally has a respectable grower who has a true appreciation for cannabis. Rhode Island's Finest, also known as RI_Finest, has been a cannabis connoisseur since his early teenage years and has since then, evolved from being an ordinary herbalist to an exceptional grower and care giver. "The Finer Side" grows are top shelf, and of course, only the finest strains. RI_Finest has established an award winning name for himself, winning titles at both Cannabis Allstars RI 2014 and the High Times Cannabis Cup Michigan 2015. A humble and generous person with immaculate growing skills, RI_Finest is the ideal care giver for all herbalists.
Introduced to cannabis at 12 years old, RI_Finest decided to upgrade his love for marijuana when finding some good high grade became too difficult. "I started growing in 2012 when I could not find anything that was good and worth the price," he tells us. "So I figured I'd try to grow for myself and never looked back." Like almost every herbalist, RI_Finest learned his craft by watching others, taking their methods and making them better. "I learned how to grow from a friend who really wasn't good at growing, but I watched, listened and learned." Never having grown anything other than cannabis, through trial and error, he became better with time.
RI_Finest began growing indoors with a partner. He recalls his first few grows were difficult, experimenting with methods that failed until they became a success. He admits that he has dealt with powdery mildew, bugs and he even had to burn his first round because of heat and overfeeding. "My first grow on my own was outdoors in a 20x20 greenhouse I built with a friend." RI_Finest enjoys growing outdoors however, growing in time considering the northeast weather is always a concern.
Growing became a career when RI_Finest gave patients his grows. "They loved it," he said, "and then I started understanding the medical aspect of it and watching it benefit the patients." As a care giver, RI_Finest is extremely selective about who he provides medical cannabis to. "I have to stay compliant to the laws but yet still pay bills and not be labeled a drug dealer." His patients range from arthritis to cancer, all satisfied with the meds they receive from the Rhode Island grower.
His favorite strain to grow, he admits, is the award winning Purple Chem from Cali Connection. "It's a high yielding, incredible smelling and tasting strain with incredible colors and taste that's high in resin and THC." Purple Chem is the strain used in the 2nd place topical in the High Times Cannabis Cup in Michigan 2015 and happens to be, what he calls, his greatest accomplishment as a grower. Collaborating with BudSuds to make their medicated Purple Chem bar of soap and medicated lotion contributed to some of his greatest testimonials as well as attributed to his list of accolades. "People who would never think of using medical marijuana used our product topically and had reduced pain by 30-40% and reduced inflammation and skin disorders almost immediately. To get that feed back from multiple people was a great feeling of accomplishment," he said.
RI_Finest strains are not available in dispensary's and he has no plans on partnerships. His goal is to provide quality meds - flowers, concentrates and edibles - for Rhode Island patients. "This is more then just rolling up a joint and smoking it," he said. "My strains have helped patients with sickness, sever pain, insomnia, inflammation, skin disorders, etc." RI_Finest is more focused on being a quality care giver than shipping and selling his grows to dispensary's. He always has multiple strains growing at once, each receiving attention and care until they're sold.
With legalization sweeping the country, the media has been shedding light on many west coast collectives, growers and current events. However, RI_Finest has succeeded in putting the East Coast on the map when it comes to quality cannabis. The grower has taken his passion for cannabis and made a career out of providing top shelf meds for Rhode Island patients.
